St Xavier's College, Ranchi, in the Indian state of Jharkhand, was founded in 1944 by the Ranchi Province of the Society of Jesus, a Christian religious order that traces its origin to St. Ignatius Loyola in 1540. ==Features== The course of study includes: * Degree Science (Honours) * Degree Arts (Honours) * Degree Commerce (Honours) * Degree Vocational (Honours) * P.G. courses The college is registered under the Registration of Society Act XXI of 1860 under the local title "Xavier's Ranchi". St. Xavier's College was conferred Autonomous Status by UGC through its letter No. F.22-1/ 2005/ (Desk-AC) dated July 9, 2005 for six years from 2005-2006 to 2010-2011 and 2011-13. The Executive Committee of the National Assessment & Accreditation Council made St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, an affiliated college of Ranchi University, Jharkhand, with Grade A, in 2013. St. Xavier's College study room and library was established in 1944. It was called Meletre Baraque and was situated in front of the Principal's office. In 1960 it was shifted to the Arts Block. and in 1996 the stack room was enlarged under UGC.
